Laurie is joining the trip!

Our friend Laurie is joining us on her 2013 Wee Strom!  Suzuki V-Strom 650I met Laurie at the Bennington Triumph Bash a few years ago.  Kim & Kate brought her and then the four of us rode the 2014 Nutmeg 400 together.  An instructor for the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, Laurie travels among the New England Harley dealers training riders.  We were supposed to rendezvous with Rob two weeks ago at the Ramapo 500 weekend camping rally but my bike was still sidelined.  Laurie rode down with Kim and Kate, all the way from NH to Suffern, NY, only to have her stator die 20 miles from the start Friday night.  Needless to say, she did not participate either and thus never met Rob, part of the broken fellowship of the five planning to ride & camp together.

I plan on a predawn KSU from NYC and Rob and I will meet Laurie in western NJ en route.  The first leg of 250 miles from rendezvous to the entrance to Skyline Drive is all routine on Rt 78 to 81 southwest through PA, MD, the sliver of W VA and into Virginia.  We then have about 10 miles to Skyline Drive in Front Royal.  There is a Citgo I’ve used before, the final fuel and food prior to Skyline, and we’ll stop there again, hopefully by noon.

We then ride Skyline south the full 105 miles, a few stops to take in the views, for four hours.  Back 12 miles to the highway and continue on 81 south for 2.5 hours more before turning into the mountains for a 30 minute trip towards Back Of The Dragon.

It’s a 560 mile day and will probably go 12 or 13 hours but I am starting early and there are 14.5 hours of daylight, 6-8:30 and I anticipate a pre-sunset arrival at the motel.
