Centralia, PA

Rob and I share a birthday week and decided to take a day ride.  Rob has seen the ride reports on Centralia, PA posted by some of us and wants to make a visit.  Centralia is the PA coal-country town closed by eminent domain over the still-burning underground coal mine fire that continues to send fumes into the air.

I made a visit a few years ago on the blue Tiger.  Separately, I led a ride to PA route 125 and it’s adjacent Gold Mine Rd. They are lovely farm rides on a nice day.  I was there in early spring and it was a little sloppy.

We’ll miss (my 3rd time missing) an original Triumph dealer and legendary stop Hermey’s.

Sadly, Harry’s Grill in Shamokin has closed after almost 100 years but the tempting Coney Island Lunch has been on my radar since passing it last time.  It’s after the Centralia visit and before the 32 miles of 125 and Gold Mine Rd; perfectly placed at the halfway point of the day.

Ride report to follow-
